On November 14th, at the IEC of Oregon’s offices in Tigard, IEC’s Lobbyist Shawn Miller and Christine Drazan, Republican Oregon State House Leader provided a legislative update of the recent sessions.  As a long term legislator and part of the super minority, Christine discussed her point of view of the differences in the legislature today as opposed to several years ago.

Kent Zimmerman, Board President, presented Christine with a check for $2500 from the PAC Fund to continue support for the interests of our members.  We thank her, Shawn and all of our members for coming out and sharing ideas and concerns regarding the state specific electrical industry issues.

These complimentary lunches bring informative seminars to our members in an informal setting, allowing them to not only meet each other, but to talk one-on-one with our board members.  The next seminar will be in February 2020.  Look for our announcements soon.

The Independent Electrical Contractors of Oregon Annual Meeting was held Thursday, June 20th at McMenamins Wilsonville Old Church and Pub.  The room was full as members got reacquainted and enjoyed a complimentary dinner.

Afterwards, Liam O’Brien, Board President called the meeting to order and approved the financials for the year.  Carl Redman, Past Board President, called for a vote on the new board of directors for 2019-2020, including Kent Zimmerman of Access Electric as President and Sherri Poole of All Pro Electric as Vice President.  Maureen Parkin of Parkin Electric will come back to serve as Treasurer as does Jeneè Pearce-Mushen as Secretary.  A complete list of all of our board members can be found on the tab About Us/Board of Directors.  Thank you to all of the 2018-2019 Board of Directors for their insight, time and good humor over the last two years.  Their hard work is essential to the success of IEC of Oregon.

After the board was ratified, Cindy Regier, Executive Director of IEC of Oregon, provided a short synopsis of the last year and then turned the meeting over to Deborah Jeffries of HR Answers who provided an overview of the recent changes in HR and how it would affect our members business.

It was a successful evening and we want to thank our Annual Meeting Sponsors Diamond Level:  EOFF/North Coast, Federated Insurance, HealthNet, KPD Insurance, Niedermeyer Risk Management, and SAIF.  We also thank Ruby Sponsor Barran Liebman.

2019 Wire Off

IEC joined with the Northwest Institute of Electrical Technology to produce a great family-friendly Wire Off event again this year.  31 total competitors – our largest field – vied for the trophy, cash and the chance to go to St. Louis in October to compete at the national level.

Competitors had to prove mastery of their skills through a written test and demonstration of their abilities in conduit bending, residential wiring and motor controls.  While the competitors battled it out, there was a trade show, free lunch, raffle prizes and a lot of activities to keep the kiddies entertained.

Special thanks goes out to our platinum sponsors Crescent Electric Supply Company, Parkin Electric, Platt Supply Company and Bear Electric for all the support, supplies and work they put toward this event. Their sponsorship along with that of our other vendors allows this competition, now in its fifth year, to thrive.

This is the second year in a row the Richert brothers have competed and taken top spots.  Congratulations to all of our winners and competitors.  We are proud of you.

  • 1st Place =  Jonathan Richert with Pacific Coast Electric
